With each passing year, science is advancing but there are still some things that science could never explain nor will ever be able to. No matter what gadgets we use and how much the technology advances, some things are still mysteries. Everyone love mysteries, isn’t it? But these 10 mysteries date back to many years and it is nearly impossible to find the truth now. Historians and archaeologist tried to explain the truth behind a few of these but could not. Let us have a look.
1. Saksaywaman
Peru, home to many ancient wonders, and one of them and most mysterious one is Saksaywaman. It is located in Cuzco and is an architectural delight. It was built in the 11th century and it is hard to believe that such engineering technologies existed at that time. A thin sheet of paper cannot be passed through the space between its boulders. The ancient Inca people used what technology that nobody could find but some scientists surely believe that they used some concoction made from plants or may have used the heat from the sun with mirrors to soften and melt the stones.
2. The Gobekli Tepe
This is a structure that was built almost 11000 years ago. This mysterious structure was dug up and is assumed to be built around Stone Age. This is believed to be the first temple that was ever built by the mankind. There is remarkable carvings at the excavation site of ancient animals and people and has decorated pillars. The civilizations at that time had no metallic tools with them but this temple certainly reflects the evolution of human race.
3. The Easter Island
The Easter Island is no less than any mystery. It has around 200 ancient statues which are gigantic in their size. Scientists and archaeologists could never figure out how those people could lift those 14 tonnes statues and move from one place to another. This is very hard to do even today!
4.A plain filled with ancient jars
In Laos, there’s plain which is packed with Megalithic jars gigantic in size. The mystery of the Xieng Khouang plain tortured the scholars’ brains for years after it was discovered by a few lucky archaeologists. It is very bizarre to see some 3000 huge jars of stone scattered all over the place. Each jar weighs in tonnes and is carved masterfully. The carvings hint towards the use of iron chisels and other instruments but there is no clue why they were made and placed they are being placed.
5. The Disappearance of Anthony and Cleopatra
The ancient lovers who seemed to be invincible until they were not. Nobody really knows what happened to them after the defeat of Anthony in the battle of Atcium in around 31 B.C.Historians believe that they escaped to Egypt but nobody knows whether they were assassinated or they committed suicide. The Octavians granted the permission for them to be buried properly. Their bodies were never found. Some believe they were buried at the temple of Osiris and some believe that they were buried in Alexandria.
6. The Shroud of Turin
The highly controversial holy objects ever found by the Historians is the Shroud of Turin.The shroud holds an image of a bearded man which is imprinted on it and is supposed to be Jesus Christ himself. People believe that this shroud covered the body of Jesus when he was being crucified. The material of the shroud was carbon dated but nothing could be concluded from the results. The evidence shows that it was a burial cloth for the crucified man but nothing could prove that the man was Christ himself. Some scientists believe that the image on it is just an ancient painting and nothing else.
7.The Screaming Mummy
Can you imagine a mummy with its mouth wide open as if screaming? The screaming mummy was discovered by the Egyptian archaeologists back in 1881 while excavating the site of Deir El Bahri. All organs were intact and the face was in agony. There was no name on it and was wrapped in sheepskin. It was lying next to Ramses II which shows that it may belong to someone royal and is assumed to be that pf Prince Pentewere who is said to have planned murder of Ramses III (His father).
8. The Pyramid of Hellinikon
The Pyramid of Hellinikon is in Greece , a place which is very famous for non-Egyptian pyramids. This pyramid is situated in Agros and there is no record who built this pyramid and why. It is believed that it was built somewhere in 2720 B.C which even older than pyramids built in Egypt.
9. The Nazca Lines
Nazca Lines are a part of the group of symbols known as the geoglyphs. Geoglyphs are the gigantic pictures which can only be appreciated from the top. Now the question is why these civilizations needed such symbols. Nazca lines stretch up to 500 meters or more and depict fishes, animals, humans, and creatures which are unknown to us. Scholars believe these were created back in the 500 B.C the purpose of these symbols are a mystery even though some believe that it was used for astronomical studies.
10. The Devil’s Bible
The Devil’s Bible is a manuscript belonging to 13th-century which was written by a man in one day. Legends say that a monk was sentenced to death and was being buried alive for breaking his vows and he promised to create a manuscript containing all the known and unknown to the humanity. This book is also known as the Codex Gigas and is packed with the works from Hippocrates too, Bible which was being translated from Latin, rituals performed during an exorcism and medical formulae. It has a chapter dedicated to devil solely. Some pages are however missing and it is believed those pages could bring the devil to the world.
