French highliner performs death-defying walk on cable car wire 1,200ft above Mont Blanc in the French Alps

A daredevil highliner has performed a walk 1,200ft above the Alps. Frenchman Julien Millot walked across the two inch wide wire of the Vanoise Express cable car which runs in front of Mont Blanc in the French Alps. The heartstopping walk across the 196ft gap was to mark the tenth anniversary of the Paradaski ski area and Mr Millot, a former engineer, was joined by his friend Tancrede Melet.

Daredevil: French highliner Julien Millot performs on the Paradaski cable way in front of the Mont Blanc mountain in La Plagne in the French Alps Mr Millot, who lists rock climbing as his first love, is an experienced highliner as well as a keen base jumper and paraglider. A highline is a type of tightrope walk which is done on a slack line strung between two points. It was inspired by artists who walked on cables that were fixed between points thousands of feet in the air.

The record of the longest highline walk is held by Jerry Misewski who completed a 704ft walk in America this October. This cable way linked Las Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and la Plagne and was designed by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. The pair are part of a group called Skyliners that travel the globe doing various stunts and extreme sports such as rock climbing, tightrope walking and base jumping.
