A 1,400-year-old ginkgo tree in China has been drawing large crowds recently after it started dropping it’s golden leaves, creating a sea of yellow on the surrounding floor. The ancient tree is located next to the Gu Guanyin Buddhist Temple in the Zhongnan Mountains and is a reminder of just how beautiful the autumn season can be.

The Ginko tree is often referred to as a ‘living fossil’ because it’s thought that it remains unchanged for hundreds of millions of years with fossils of the tree that are 200 million years old appearing to have exactly the same structure. Some of the specimens still alive today are thought to be 2,500-years-old.
